case description

The user interacts with the “Helsinki in a Snap” mobile App by accessing to the General information of the city: points of interests, mobility and travel, routing, general services, participating in the forum discussion, providing comments, ranks, accessing to events, etc. The user can (i) browse on the points of interest, POI, of the city, (ii) perform a travel plan (also multimodal) with the routing, (iii) search for a mobility services for pedestrian visiting or car visiting, (iv) share its position and tracking with other users during the visit, (v) rate or mark as favourite one or more services, (vi) share comments on the forum with other users, (vii) take decisions and provide suggestions to the city for improving the services. 

      

 

case goal

Improve the understanding of the social and user behaviour conditions and improve quality of life.

  • Be aware about the city services, contribute to their improvement
    • Browse the Points of Interest (POI) of the city: culture, vine and food, shopping, restaurants, etc.;
    • Perform a travel plan (also multimodal) to reach the POI, reach it;
    • Rate one or more services, drop a comment and upload a photo for them;
  • Be aware about the activities performed by your and other colleagues
    • Mark as favourite, see the list of favourites in MyActivity;
    • Access to your Track (path in the city) and see it;
    • Delegate access to your Track to another user sharing your experience in the city;
    • Observe your track and the track of your friends;
    • Access to chronology of the activity performed on the mobile App;
  • Share a comment on the in-App Discussion Forum;
    • Provide suggestion to the community of users and to the city.
  • Access to personal data on the portal via the Mobile App or PC browser.
  • Filling the assessment survey

Access rights

The user can download and install the App from the Google Play store, providing his/her own name and password selecting as profile “Citizens” or “Tourist”.

 

Pre-test conditions

The user:

  • has a smartphone with Android or iOS (not yet but close to have);
  • has installed the “Helsinki in a snap” mobile App. At the first usage the registration is performed using the mobile App.
  • may spend time in Helsinki and may be in the Jätkäsaari for using the Mobile App and reporting experience via an “in App Survey” or via an “OnLine Survey”.

 

Post-test conditions

The user, to complete the experience, has to:

  • Perform the following step-by-step actions, the App is going to track the activity
  • Fill the in the in-App-Survey or the online survey: The survey is the last point suggested in the Goal Experience described below.
  • The city Officials can stay connected on the forum to listen about the comments coming from the city users.
  • The City Officials can take advantage of the information collected and can act to improve the city condition and be aware about eventual causes of discomfort.

 

Test-scenario (incl. step-by-step actions)

  • Download and Install the  App
  • Open the “Helsinki in a snap” mobile app
  • Login with your username and password
  • Browse the Points of Interest (POI) of the city: culture, wine and food, shopping, restaurants, etc.;
    • In the main page of the app, click on the Around You icon
    • Different categories of interest are shown. Select a category related to the points of interest you want to show on the map. For example, click on “Cultural Activity,
    • Pins related to the category of interest selected will be shown on the map. Below the map the list of POIs is available. By clicking a pin in the map or an item in the list, details of the selected service will be shown.
    • Click the Home icon on the left bottom of the screen to return to the main page of the app;
    • In the main page of the app, click on the Around You icon
    • Select another category of interest, for example Wine and Food
    • Pins related to the category of interest selected will be shown on the map. Below the map the list of POIs is available. By clicking a pin in the map or an item in the list, details of the selected service will be shown.
  • Perform a travel plan to reach the POI, reach it;
    • Click the Home icon on the left bottom of the screen to return to the main page of the app;
    • In the main page of the app, click again on the Around You icon
    • Select a category related to the points of interest you want to show on the map, for example Wine and Food  
    • In the map, select the pin of interest of click on the item in the list below the map. Details of the selected service will be shown.
    • On the top part of the description, click on the Navigator icon to start the travel plan.
    • The selected POI will be added as end point of the trip.
    • To select the starting point of the trip you can decide to:
      • Start from a manual position: tap anywhere on the map and select “Path From” (1) in the pin balloon to set is as starting point;
      • Start from your actual position: in the start line click the circle icon (2) to set the starting point with your current position;
      • Write the address in the Start field (3);
      • Click the X icon to clean the address field (4);
      • Click the Add destination blue button (5) to add an intermediate address
      • Click the Trash button (6) to delete a destination;
      • Click the double rounded arrows icon (7) to switch between the starting and ending poi. The start poi will become ending point and vice versa.
      • Click the reset button (8) to clean all fields;
      • Click Calculate to see the suggested trip on the map (9);
      • Click the Start green button on the bottom of the app, to start the 3D navigation by using the internal navigator.
    • Please note that the travel planner is also capable to provide you a multimodal plan exploiting the time schedule of the public transportation.
  • Rate one or more services, drop a comment and upload a photo for them;
    • Click the Home icon on the left bottom of the screen to return to the main page of the app;
    • In the main page of the App, click on the Around You icon
    • Different categories of interest are shown. Select a category related to the points of interest you want to show on the map. For example, click on “Cultural Activity,
    • Pins related to the category of interest selected will be shown on the map. Below the map the list of POIs is available.
    • By clicking a pin in the map or an item in the list, details of the selected service will be shown.
    • Scroll down on the bottom part of the screen and rate the service by clicking the corresponding number of stars;
    • Click the “Upload Photo” or “Take Photo” icon to save an image related to the selected pin;
    • Write a comment by using the comment field and click “Send” to save the comment.
  • Mark as favourite, see the list of favourites in MyActivity;
    • Click a pin in the map representing a service you want to mark as favourite. By clicking a pin, the corresponding additional information will be shown on the bottom part of the screen
    • Click the heart icon to mark the service as favourite
    • A confirmation message will be shown. Click OK to confirm;
    • Select other pins on the map and mark them as favourite as described above;
    • Click the Home icon on the left bottom of the screen to return to the main page of the app;
    • Click on the My Activity icon  and then click the Favourite button  to see the list of services you marked as favourites;
  • Access to your Track (path in the city) and see it;
    • Click the Home icon on the left bottom of the screen to return to the main page of the app;
    • Click on the My Activity icon  and then click the My Tracks icon
    • Below the map, a list of yet saved personal trajectories is shown
    • Click an item in the list to see the trajectories in the map
    • In the bottom part of the screen, details of the selected track are shown. Among them you can:
      • Delete the track;
      • Edit the track, to edit the information related to the track
      • Delegate another user to access to your trajectories. Click the Delegate button, insert the username of a registered user and click Save to authorize the user to access to your trajectories data.
      • Change the day to see the corresponding trajectories saved in the selected day
  • Delegate access to your Track to another user sharing your experience in the Smart Zone;

  • Observe your track and the track of your friends;
    • If your friend delegated you to access to its tracks, you have to:
    • Click the Home icon on the left bottom of the screen to return to the main page of the app;
    • Click on the My Activity icon  and then click the Friend Tracks icon ;
    • The list of delegated tracks will be shown in the bottom part of the screen;
    • Click on an item in the list to see the specific track delegated by your friend in the map;
    • In the track details in the bottom part of the screen you can:
      • Delete the track;
      • Edit the track, to edit the information related to the delegated track.
  • Access to chronology of the activity performed on the mobile App;
    • If you are not in the main page of the app, click on the Home icon on the bottom left of the screen;
    • On the main page of the App, click on the My Activity icon  and then click the Chronology button  to see the list of services selected in the past.
    • Click the Empty button  on the bottom of the screen, to clean the chronology.
  • Share a comment on the in-App Discussion Forum;
    • If you are not in the main page of the app, click on the Home icon on the bottom left of the screen;
    •  On the main page of the App, click on the Forum icon
    • The webpage of the App discussion forum will be open
    • Scroll down and write a Subject and a Comment in the Add new comment area;
    • Click Save.
    • The city Officials can stay connected on the forum to listen about the comments coming from the city users. The City Official can provide correct information if in some cases the discussion would go assuming wrong information.
    • The City Officials can act to improve the city conditions and be aware about eventual causes of discomfort.
  • Access to personal data on the portal via the Mobile App or PC browser.
  • Filling the assessment survey
    • If you are not in the main page of the app, click on the Home icon on the bottom left of the screen;
    • Click on the Assistant icon ;
    • The HELP US item in the list will ask to leave a Feedback on experimentation. Click Reply and complete the survey
  • The user can do a quite similar experience by using the Web version of the App with some limitations on the GPS located services according to their internet provider.
