Although tourism is a major engine of economic growth, it also creates a burden hard to manage, and has a great impact on the conservation of the heritage. HERIT-DATA project aims to reduce the impact of tourism activities on cultural heritage, by taking advantage of technology and data exploitation. The project will focus especially on old towns and sites of particular archaeological and cultural interest, including UNESCO World Heritage Sites. HERIT-DATA partners will develop, test and transfer a series of tools to collect, generate, integrate, analyse information and transform it into behaviour changes. The results will also contribute to improve decision-making processes run by public administration & tourism or heritage managing bodies. ! NEW ! As many destinations reopen and many people restart travelling, the management of tourism flows and the sustainability of tourism become even greater priorities. HERIT-DATA brings innovative solutions to better manage tourism flows by using big data and new technologies. Today we proudly present you a new video to illustrate our work!

“Every day, we are surrounded by data. What if data could be used to better manage tourism? The HERIT-DATA project has created an Indicators system to help tourism planners & managers to collect useful data that will help them to better manage visitors' flows in destinations. Even in times of social distancing and travel restrictions, effective data collection & use remain key in order to ensure a safe tourism experience which does not damage the environment and the local community. This video has been produced by Fundación Santa María la Real del patrimonio histórico, HERIT-DATA partner based in Valencia (Spain). Funded by the Interreg MED Programme, HERIT-DATA develops innovative solutions to better manage the impact of tourism flows on cultural and natural heritage sites through technologies and big data. “
